The Labour party has recently claimed that big energy companies have bought their power for almost £4bn more than the average market rate. In their new analysis of official figures the Labour party state that the ‘big six’ energy suppliers have been either inflating their prices to make extra profits on their own power plants, or have been striking very expensive deals at the detriment of customers, who they claim have paid £150 over the odds for their energy in the last 3 years. However, a senior Ofgem partner has admitted to being unable to test these claims by Labour, due to the lack of transparency within the industry.
