Boiler Servicing Explained

Your engineer will need to carry out a variety of tests during your boiler service. Regulations and guidelines change on a regular basis and it isimportant that things are checked on a regualr basis to ensure your safety and compliance.

Location of the Boiler:   The boiler and flues must be located in places that comply with gas safety regulations, and if needed adjustments and relocations may be necessary.

External Controls and Panels - All of the external panels and controls will be checked to make sure all is in good working order.

The Actual Service -  Your engineer will now check the following:

  • The main injector
  • The main burner
  • The joints on all the water and gas pipes
  • The flue terminal
  • The electrical components
  • Spark centre probe
  • Heat exchanger
  • The fan
  • The seals

After ensuring that all the components are safe and working to a suitable standard he will then clean out the inside of your boiler to remove lint and dust that might clog up working parts or present a fire hazard.

Flue Gas Analysis Test- the last check your engineer will do is to test the emissions from the gas flue. This is to test that the carbon monoxide levels fall within safe levels.

If there are no problems, then your engineer can certify that your boiler is safe - and if you have ordered one, your Gas Safety Record can be issued. This is also known as a Homeowner/Landord Gas Certificate. If there are any problems, then your engineer will discuss them with you andoutline what needs to be done to complete the tests.
